Val di Chio opens just beyond Castiglion Fiorentino, secluded and green, as if it wanted to withdraw for a moment from the rhythm of the plain. The trekking among the ancient mills follows the course of the Cilone and crosses a valley where water has shaped work, settlements and memory.
Along the stream, where the mills once worked
The path passes small medieval villages and milling structures built along the watercourses. Some mills still retain legible forms and masonry, enough to imagine the sound of the millstones and the life that revolved around these places. The passage through the Parco del Cilone offers a pleasant rest stop, also suitable for families.
A simple itinerary, but never monotonous
With a length of about ten kilometres, easy difficulty and modest elevation gain, the route lets you walk without haste. The pleasure lies in the details: a bridge, a shady stretch, the sound of water, a village appearing among the trees. It is a walk capable of telling the story of Val di Chio without raising its voice.
