The Path of the Etruscan Princes begins as a detour from the Sentiero della Bonifica, but soon takes on a character all its own. The flat line of the canal drifts away and the gaze begins to search for Cortona, the ancient Curtun, perched on the hill like a presence that accompanies the journey.
From the reclamation to the Etruscan city
After Foiano della Chiana, the route leaves the main itinerary and heads toward the archaeological area of Cortona. It is also a symbolic passage: from the modern history of the reclaimed valley one climbs back to its most distant roots, when the Etruscan civilization governed these lands and made them a strategic center of culture and exchange.
Necropolis or historic center: two ways to continue
Upon reaching the rest area, you can choose to explore the ancient tombs and funerary monuments or continue toward the center of Cortona. In either case the journey keeps the same promise: to read the territory not as a sequence of attractions, but as a continuous story that joins countryside, archaeology and town.
