Location Cortona, 52044 AR
The theatre The Teatro Signorelli, owned by theAccademia degli Arditi, is a historic theatre in Cortona designed by the famous architect from Arezzo Carlo Gatteschi which was inaugurated in 1854, within the setting of Piazza Signorelli, where the beautiful church of Sant'Andrea stands. Begun in 1854 and completed three years later, it was initially named Teatro Imperiale or Regio Teatro Leopoldo, in honour of the then Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany. In neoclassical style, the external loggia, distributed over seven arches, for years hosted the market of the Logge del Grano. Inside the theatre we can find a striking horseshoe-shaped hall surrounded by four tiers of elegant boxes that wrap around the stalls. The space is crowned by a majestic vault adorned with floral frescoes, offering guests an unforgettable experience immersed in art and beauty. The Theatre, although owned by the Accademia degli Arditi, also serves public functions. The synergy established over time between the Academy and the Municipality has produced a series of events not expressly related to the theatre season, such as conferences, cultural initiatives on various themes, and music and dance performances. Teatro Signorelli, 2023/2024 season, great protagonists for twelve performances and a series entirely made of emotions!
